Today I stumbled into the Hot Sauce Werks, a hidden gem for hot sauce enthusiasts. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by an explosion of tantalizing aromas and friendly helpful smiles. The shelves were lined with an impressive variety of hot sauces, ranging from mild to butt-blasting hot. I like a good balance myself, always concerned as to whether a good hot sauce burn will be the same coming out as it was going in. Regardless of my concerns about my daily toilet, this is a paradise for anyone who craves a spicy kick in their meals.
As I began to explore the store, I noticed the enthusiastic staff, (I am guessing husband and wife) always ready to offer recommendations and samples. Each sample sent my taste buds on a roller coaster of flavors, from tangy habanero to smoky chipotle. It was impossible not to get excited about the endless possibilities. The staff, eager to share their spicy wisdom, and passionate about the ingredients that made each sauce unique.
After sampling a few sauces, I stumbled upon a jar of spicy bourbon bread and butter pickles. This unexpected combination intrigued me, and before I knew it, I had purchased a jar. The owner chuckled as he handed me the pickles, warning me that they had an addictive quality. He declared, with a mischievous furrowed brow, that he would not be held responsible for any acquired addictions conceived in his store.
Curiosity getting the better of me, I couldn’t resist opening the jar on my way home. The tangy aroma of bourbon infused with the sweetness of bread and butter pickles enveloped the car. I couldn’t wait to take a bite. As soon as the first tangy crunch hit my taste buds, I was in love. The flavors danced on my tongue like a fakir crossing hot coals. The slight heat of the bourbon blended perfectly with the sweet and tangy pickle. It was a match made in hot sauce heaven.
I am constantly thinking how wonderful these would be on a rare wet juicy hamburger.
So, if you ever find yourself in need of a fiery adventure, don’t hesitate to seek out Hot Sauce Werks. Just be warned, once you enter that spicy haven, your taste buds will never be the same again.
